Liverpool University Press is delighted to announce the appointment of Prof. Eddie Jones as Series Editor of the renowned series Exeter Medieval Texts and Studies, joining co-Editor Prof. Richard Dance, following the retirement of Prof. Vincent Gillespie.
LUP is extremely grateful to Prof. Gillespie, who served as Series Editor from 2002 to 2023 and did so much to develop and grow the series, which was founded by Michael Swanton in 1975. Prof. Richard Dance said: “It’s been an extraordinary privilege and such a pleasure to work with Vincent Gillespie on this brilliant series, and I’m thrilled we have the wonderful Eddie Jones on board as our new Series Editor.” Prof. Jones said: “Vincent’s are some big shoes to try and fill, but I’m excited to have joined EMTS. I have always had a soft spot for the series. Marion Glasscoe’s edition of Julian of Norwich was one of the first books I bought as an undergraduate, and it’s great that I’ll be able to keep the Exeter connection going.”
The series has also appointed a distinguished Editorial Committee: Margaret Connolly, University of St Andrews; Susan Irvine, University College London; Bella Millett, University of Southampton; Sarah Peverley, University of Liverpool; Sue Powell, University of Leeds; Ad Putter, University of Bristol and William Robins, University of Toronto.
Now numbering nearly 90 volumes, ranging from Old English through to early Tudor texts, as well as a number of critical studies and guides for studying medieval texts, the series continues to grow and publishes several volumes each year. In 2020 LUP launched Exeter Medieval Online, a digital collection of the complete series for libraries.
Clare Litt, Commissioning Editor for medieval studies, said: “EMTS has gone from strength to strength in recent years, and we’re delighted to be working with such a great editorial team. The series has a predominantly British focus and is looking to commission critical editions, monographs and edited volumes dealing with texts from across the medieval period. If you are interested in doing a volume for the series, please do get in touch.”
