Liverpool University Press is delighted to announce a new publishing partnership with the Society for French Studies, to publish the journals French Studies and French Studies Bulletin from 2025.

The Society for French Studies is the oldest and largest association in the UK and Ireland actively representing the interests of scholars and students of French studies in higher education and sustaining a disciplinary community at a time of rapid change.

French Studies, the society’s internationally renowned journal, has appeared continuously since 1947. The journal publishes articles and reviews spanning all areas of the subject, including language and linguistics (historical and contemporary), all periods and aspects of literature, thought and the history of ideas, cultural studies, film, and critical theory. These areas are understood expansively and with reference to any part of the world within which French is spoken. The journal’s review section is unmatched in its breadth and its quality.

The society has also published, for over three decades, French Studies Bulletin: A Quarterly Supplement, which is the companion journal to French Studies. It publishes short articles on topics spanning all areas of the subject, as well as on topical issues and debates.

The first issue under the new publishing agreement will be published in early 2025 and will be fully available online on the Liverpool University Press (LUP) website.

Professor Nicholas Harrison, President of the Society for French Studies said:
“We are excited to be working with Liverpool University Press, who over the last couple of decades have firmly established themselves as leading publishers of work in Modern Languages. French studies as a discipline is constantly expanding intellectually and diversifying and we know that LUP will help our work reach its widest possible readership.”

Clare Hooper, Director of Journals Publishing at LUP said:
“We are absolutely delighted to be forming a new partnership with the Society for French Studies to publish the distinguished French Studies and French Studies Bulletin in 2025. We know that scholars and students in the French studies community will continue to find the journals an invaluable resource.”
