Helgard Krause and David Nicholson have been appointed non-executive directors of the award-winning academic publisher, Liverpool University Press.
Helgard Krause is the Chief Executive of the Books Council of Wales and a non-executive director of Creative Wales, an economic development agency of the Welsh Government. She is a former Director of the University of Wales Press and was previously named by The Bookseller as one of the 150 most influential people in UK publishing.
David Nicholson is Group Vice President and General Manager, Publisher Solutions at Wiley, having held a number of senior leadership roles for Wiley, Blackwell Publishing and CABI. He was formerly a trustee of the international development charity INASP. His daughter is a student at the University of Liverpool.
Professor Georgina Endfield, Chair of the Board of Liverpool University Press, commented, ‘Helgard and David bring significant and complementary experience to the Board of LUP, spanning deep knowledge of books, journals, digital infrastructure and good governance. They arrive at a challenging time for all academic publishers but LUP, under the leadership of Anthony Cond, is well placed to meet those challenges. On which note, I would like to say a very big thank you to Richard Charkin and Toby Faber, who have provided consistently wise counsel over their extended Board terms.’

About Liverpool University Press
Founded in 1899, Liverpool University Press is internationally recognised for high quality academic publishing. Each year, the Press publishes around 200 new books, more than 50 journals and a number of digital collections. It also serves as the publishing partner for several prestigious organisations, including the British Academy, and provides distribution and subscription management services to a number of other university presses. LUP is entirely unsubsidised and operates as a self-funding subsidiary of the University of Liverpool. Under current leadership, the Press’s annual turnover has grown from around £400,000 to around £4million, picking up Bookseller and IPG awards for Academic Publisher of the Year along the way. As a mission-driven organisation, every penny made by the Press has been invested back into the dissemination of knowledge and support of the academic community.
