The Bodleian Library Record (BLR) is the journal of the Bodleian Libraries. First published in 1914 (as The Bodleian Quarterly Record), it fulfils two roles, serving both as a scholarly journal for articles based on research in the Bodleian’s collections and those of other Oxford libraries, and as a record of significant developments within the Libraries.

The BLR is committed to the publication of research which enhances scholarship and extends understanding of the collections, raising issues of interest to bibliophiles, librarians and Friends of the Bodleian, and those Sir Thomas Bodley called the ‘Republic of the Learned’. It also includes short articles on acquisitions to the Bodleian Libraries collections and reviews of its exhibitions and publications.

Clare Hooper, Director of Journals Publishing said:

We are absolutely delighted to be working with the Bodleian Libraries to publish the distinguished Bodleian Library Record from 2024. It’s also incredibly exciting that the journal archive will be made available online for the first time.

Samuel Fanous, Head of Publishing at Bodleian Library Publishing said:

“For over a century the Bodleian has published scholarly research articles based on the Libraries’ rich collections, as well as information about the institution in the BLR. We are delighted to partner with LUP to bring this wealth of new and historic research to readers, who will now be able to access this vast archive electronically.”

The first issue under the new publishing agreement will be published in October 2024 and will be fully available online at Liverpool University Press. Online access to the archive of the journal is also available for the first time and is available to all Friends of the Bodleian, institutions can also purchase online access in perpetuity via the Bodleian Library Record Archive.
