Liverpool University Press is pleased to announce its integration with ORCID®, reinforcing our commitment to supporting researchers in receiving attribution for their scholarly contributions. ORCID’s vision is to establish a global network where all individuals engaged in research, scholarship, and innovation are uniquely identified and connected to their work across disciplines, institutions, and time.
ORCID iDs are free for researchers to use.
What is an ORCID iD?
An ORCID iD is used to uniquely identify contributors to scholarly research – as personal names are often not unique and can change throughout the course of a researcher’s lifetime, ORCID seeks to provide a persistent identifier for individuals. It helps researchers, universities and research institutes, funders, and publishers to ensure the correct individuals are credited for their work.
For researchers, an ORCID iD is a free, unique, persistent identifier (PID) for individuals to use as they engage in research, scholarship, and innovation activities:
- Uniquely Yours: Distinguish yourself and claim credit for your work no matter how many people have your same (or similar) name.
- Portable profile data: Easily share data between your record and funding, publications, data repositories, and other research workflows
This integration ensures that authors receive appropriate recognition for their work and enhances the discoverability of their contributions within the scholarly community.

How to Register and Next Steps
Researchers may register for a free ORCID iD directly on the ORCID website.
Liverpool University Press will ask contributors to provide their ORCID iD once their article goes into production. (For those journals that use a ScholarOne Manuscripts submission site, this can be provided when registering your account/submitting your paper.)
Once an article is published online, each contributor’s ORCID iD will be associated with their article and the ORCID iD logo will appear alongside their name.
