Liverpool University Press has partnered with the University of Liverpool to deliver a master’s degree in Publishing, commencing September 2026. This programme is distinct in the UK as the first publishing course from a Russell Group institution to be co-developed with an on-site academic publisher.
The course will combine the industry expertise of an award-winning publisher with the academic excellence of an institution ranked in the world top 100 for English (QS World University Rankings 2025). Topics in the programme will be wide-ranging, offering insights into the roles and responsibilities of editorial, production, and marketing, and covering elements of both academic and trade publishing.
The programme will have a focus on employability, teaching students industry-focused skills alongside career coaching and work placement opportunities. In support of this, the teaching team will consist of industry representatives and editors alongside active researchers in the Department of English.
Anthony Cond, Chief Executive at Liverpool University Press, commented: “This course is grounded in industry best practice with an emphasis on enhancing employability. The majority of teaching is undertaken by staff actively working in publishing, bringing live insights and reflecting the ongoing evolution of the field. As a result, graduates will be particularly well placed to secure future employment.”
Professor Greg Lynall, Head of the Department of English, added: “The Department of English and Liverpool University Press have been working closely for many years on initiatives including the hugely successful Pavilion Poetry series and its associated undergraduate work placements. I’m delighted that we are building on this strong partnership with a new and exciting MA which blends academic study with training in the latest publishing practices.”
Applications for MA Publishing will open in October 2025. For further information, including details on how to apply, please visit: https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/english/study/postgraduate-taught/publishing-ma/
