LUP Appoints New Series Editor for Greece & Rome Live

Liverpool University Press is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Hamish Williams, University of Groningen, as Series Editor of Greece & Rome Live. The series was originally founded by Bristol Phoenix Press twenty years ago, publishing popular and much-used volumes such as Gideon Nisbet’s Ancient Greece in Film and Popular Culture, Sian Lewis’ Greek Tyranny, and Elena Theodorakopoulos’ Ancient Rome at the Cinema.

Building on these strong foundations, and recognising the strength and depth of research being carried out on understanding classical ideas in both ancient and modern contexts, the appointment of Dr Williams will further develop the series for the 21st century.

Greece & Rome Live provides studies on classical literature, history, and thought, with a particular interest in the reception and rewriting of classical ideas in modern contexts as well as in the interdisciplinary intersection of Greco-Roman studies with other academic fields such as psychology, philosophy, and the natural sciences. Each book provides a succinct overview, a meaningful critical analysis, and discussion of future orientations for its subject. As well as self-standing volumes, the following distinct areas are of interest: ancient theatre and drama; classical reception studies in genre fictions; and classical studies in the history of ideas.

Hamish Williams said: “I’m thrilled to be working with LUP again and to be reinventing the Greece & Rome Live series with an even stronger focus on classical reception (rewriting classics in modern contexts) and interdisciplinarity (searching for new connections between classics and other academic contexts).”

Commissioning Editor Clare Litt said: “We’re really excited to be working with Hamish on this key series; there are many excellent books already in the pipeline… do talk to us about joining the list!”

Proposals are warmly invited for the series. Please contact either the Commissioning Editor or the Series Editor to discuss your ideas:
