Liverpool University Press (LUP) is delighted to announce a new publishing partnership with The Huguenot Society of Great Britain and Ireland to publish The Huguenot Society Journal, a premier academic journal dedicated to the study of Huguenot history.
The Huguenot Society Journal (formerly Proceedings of the Huguenot Society) has been published annually since 1885. Early numbers contained the Council’s report, the Presidential address, and a printed version of papers read at meetings. Today, each edition carries four to eight different articles, some by well-known academics, a few shorter pieces, and a substantial number of book reviews.
Clare Hooper, Director of Journals Publishing at LUP said:
“Liverpool University Press is delighted to begin a new publishing partnership with The Huguenot Society to publish ‘The Huguenot Society Journal’ from 2024. We are sure that Huguenot scholars and students will find the journal an invaluable resource, and that it will continue to be at the forefront of research in this area.”
Vivienne Larminie, Honorary Editor of The Huguenot Society Journal said:
“After well over a century of publishing information and resources about the Huguenots, The Huguenot Society is excited to be entering a new collaboration which promises to make ‘The Huguenot Society Journal’ more easily accessible and widely known. We look forward to nurturing further research on refugees and migrants whose experiences continue to resonate.”

About The Huguenot Society
The Huguenots were members of the Protestant Church, many of whom, in the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, left their homes in France and the Low Countries to escape persecution. More than 50,000 of these refugees came to the British Isles and, in 1718, a French Hospital was founded in London. In 1885, the directors of the Hospital created a Society to promote the publication and interchange of knowledge about Huguenot history.
The original ‘Huguenot Society of London’ has since been renamed ‘The Huguenot Society of Great Britain and Ireland’, and an Irish Section with its own website has been established. Both aim to nurture and disseminate research on Huguenots and also to form a bond of fellowship among those who respect the Huguenots and seek to perpetuate their memory. Membership is open to anyone wishing to join.
