International Development Planning Review (IDPR) is a peer-reviewed journal which provides an interdisciplinary platform for the critical study of development related practices, planning and policy in the global South. The journal publishes theoretically informed and empirically grounded papers, critical reviews, and viewpoints. The current editorial team consists of two co-editors, one of whom is the outgoing co-editor. It is published by Liverpool University Press.
The successful candidate will begin before, or by, 1st January 2027, by negotiation.
Role and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the existing editorial team to:
- Provide intellectual leadership and strategic direction for the journal.
- Oversee the peer-review process and editorial decision-making.
- Support the recruitment and development of a diverse pool of authors, reviewers, and editorial board members.
- Promote the journal within relevant academic and professional networks.
- Contribute to initiatives that strengthen the journal’s international profile, impact, and inclusivity.
- Identify emerging research agendas and opportunities for special issues or thematic collections.
Who Should Apply?
We welcome applications from scholars who demonstrate:
- An established record of high-quality research and publication in planning, development, urban studies, geography, or related fields.
- Experience as a reviewer, editorial board member, guest editor, or journal editor.
- A strong commitment to academic excellence, fairness, and constructive peer review.
- Knowledge of contemporary debates in development related practices, planning and policy.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a diverse and internationally engaged editorial team.
- A commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within scholarly publishing.
We particularly encourage expressions of interest from scholars whose expertise broadens the journal’s geographical, methodological, or thematic reach.

Details regarding editorial support, honoraria, workload expectations, and available resources will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
