Award-winning Liverpool University Press (LUP) has acquired the renowned Film Studies books publisher Auteur. The move builds on LUP’s established pedigree as a journals publisher in the field. Auteur owner, John Atkinson, who will continue to commission the list for LUP commented, ‘I couldn’t have wished for a better home for Auteur, or prouder that LUP identified it as a list they wanted to acquire and take from strength to strength.’ Anthony Cond, Managing Director of Liverpool University Press, added, ‘John Atkinson has built an enviable Film Studies list at Auteur over the past 20 years, drawing on his considerable expertise as a publisher in this field, notably at the BFI. We are delighted to welcome Auteur’s authors, readers and John himself to the Press.’
UK/Row distribution through Central Book Services and US distribution through Columbia University Press will continue for several months during the transition.

Established in 2000, Auteur provided teaching and classroom materials for use in media and film in secondary schools and FE, before branching out into these disciplines more widely. Their list includes the Studying Films series and the acclaimed Devil’s Advocates and Constellations series on horror and science-fiction cinema respectively.
