Escritoras latinoamericanas del siglo XXI.

Diversity and plurality are the parameters that guide this double issue of Revista Iberoamericana dedicated to contemporary Latin American women writers. The thirty-one collected texts (essays, articles, and an interview) represent the work of authors from seventeen countries and make up a cartography of 21st century writings that covers multiple literary genres in Spanish, Portuguese, and Quechua.

The issue opens with the voices of seven outstanding writers: Daniela Catrileo, Betina González, Gisela Kozak Rovero, Lina Meruane, Giovanna Rivero, Carolina Sanín and Mayra Santos-Febres, and closes with an interview with Mariana Enríquez. These collaborations give this anthology a particular register that makes it more creative, enduring and unique, generating an interdiscursive dialogue unusual in academic books.

There are also twenty-three articles organized into eight thematic clusters: maternity and non-maternity; childhood; gothic and horror literature; emotions and affects; writings in the periphery; representations of violence against women; migrations; and politics and literature. An introductory study analyses key moments in Latin American feminist literary criticism and examines how reading protocols around literature written by women have evolved. To facilitate access to the information, an analytical index of authors and texts studied is also included.

Escritoras latinoamericanas del siglo XXI offers new perspectives and approaches that deepen the understanding of 21st century Latin American literature. However, as Luciano Martínez, editor of the issue, points out, “every critical impulse begins with an interest in reading and, precisely, that is the main objective: to encourage the reading of valuable novels, short stories, poems and essays.”

Given its comprehensive essays, wide range approach and vast number of authors studied, this landmark special issue is destined to become an essential reference book for anyone interested in contemporary Latin American women writers.
