New series editor announcement: Studies in Modern and Contemporary France

Liverpool University Press is delighted to announce that Professor Jan Windebank from the University of Sheffield will be joining the team of series editors for Studies in Modern and Contemporary France.

Studies in Modern and Contemporary France is a collaboration between LUP and the Association for the Study of Modern and Contemporary France (ASMCF). The series aims to serve as an important focus for all those whose engagement with France is not restricted to the more classically literary, and encourages submissions focusing on French politics, history, society, media and culture.

Current series editors Denis Provencher and Siham Bouamer said “We are very excited to welcome Jan Windebank as co-editor to our series.  Her background and expertise make her an excellent addition to the team. Jan has played a longstanding role in the ASMCF. Her contribution to the series will extend across several areas of expertise. Her training in the social sciences and her research on “informal labor” related to gender, domestic work and care work in France, Britain, and across Europe aligns perfectly with the transnational and interdisciplinary approach to the series that we continue to emphasize. We look forward to the fresh insights she will bring to the series and to our collaboration.”

Jan Windebank said “I was honoured to be invited to join the editorial team for the Studies in Modern and Contemporary France book series. I am a long-standing member and former President of the ASMCF and former member of the editorial board of its journal. My expertise is in French society and social policy and gender studies. Throughout my career, I have been committed to promoting the pluridisciplinarity of French studies, and I am very much looking forward to continuing this work with LUP and building on the significant achievements of my co-editors and predecessors.”

Martin O’Shaughnessy has stepped down from the role and LUP would like to thank him for his work on the series since its inception. On stepping down, Martin said “When we started out, back in 2012, the series was a lovely idea waiting for the books to give it flesh. Over the years, it has been great to see one, then two, then a whole cluster of books appear, building into a lovely list that the editors are proud of. I’ve really enjoyed the collaboration with my co-editors and with LUP. I’m very grateful to the amazingly helpful anonymous reviewers we’ve had over the years and to the authors for how constructively they responded to suggestions. I think now is a good time to stand down, knowing that the series is in excellent hands and will continue to flourish.”

We are looking to continue to publish more ground-breaking interdisciplinary research on modern and contemporary France. Do get in touch if you have an idea for a proposal, by contacting the commissioning editor with a Proposal Submission Form. Recent books in the series include Countervocalities: Shifting Language Hierarchies on Corsica by Alexander Mendes and The Dreyfus Affair’s Literary Politics by Roderick Cooke. A Vehicle for Change by Éamon Ó Cofaigh is available Open Access here.
