Liverpool University Press will become the new publisher of Art Libraries Journal from 2027, continuing the journal’s established legacy following its publication by Cambridge University Press.
Published on behalf of the Art Libraries Society (ARLIS) UK & Ireland, Art Libraries Journal has been the principal international forum for the art library profession since its founding in 1976. Issued quarterly, the journal brings together leading voices in art librarianship, visual resources management, archives, and museum curation from across the globe.
The journal plays a vital role in exploring the evolving landscape of art libraries, addressing topics ranging from the impact of digital technologies and the internet on art documentation to themed issues about artists’ books, cataloguing ethics and online repositories.
Clare Hooper, Director of Journals Publishing at Liverpool University Press, commented:

New issues and access
The first issue published under the new agreement will be Volume 52.1, which will be available exclusively on the LUP website.
The complete archive of Art Libraries Journal will also be accessible via the Liverpool University Press platform, and for the first time, standard subscriptions will now include online access to the journal’s full archive from 1976 onwards for the duration of the subscription, with perpetual access for the years purchased.
All back issue content will be added to the Liverpool University Press website in the coming weeks.
