The Journal of Transport Economics and Policy (JTEP) provides a focal point for research on the economics of transportation and its wider impacts on society.
The journal publishes papers of high scholarly merit that advance our economic understanding of transport systems and their interactions with markets, institutions, and public policy. JTEP welcomes theoretical, empirical, and other relevant contributions, along with applied policy-relevant research that addresses major societal challenges.
As the longest-established journal in the field, JTEP remains committed to publishing work that shapes both the discipline of transport economics and the policies that govern transport provision worldwide.
The current editorial team consists of an outgoing editor-in-chief, two co-editors and three associate editors. It is published by Liverpool University Press
The successful applicant will begin in October 2026.
Role and Responsibilities
The editor-in-chief will provide the strategic, academic, and operational leadership necessary to maintain and enhance the journal’s reputation and impact. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing the journal’s editorial vision and strategy.
- Ensuring the quality, integrity, and relevance of published content.
- Overseeing the peer-review and editorial decision-making processes.
- Appointing and managing members of the editorial board, in accordance with journal policies.
- Supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and international representation in editorial practices.
- Promoting the journal within the academic community and at scholarly events and conferences.
- Working collaboratively with the publisher, current editorial team, and editorial board to improve journal performance and visibility.
- Monitoring emerging trends and identifying opportunities for innovation in scholarly publishing.
- Upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and research integrity.
Who Should Apply?
We welcome applications from candidates with:
- An internationally recognized record of academic achievement in transport economics.
- Significant experience as an editor, associate editor, editorial board member, or equivalent leadership role in academic publishing.
- A strong publication and research record.
- Familiarity with peer-review systems and scholarly publishing processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- A commitment to ethical publishing practices and academic excellence.
- The ability to work effectively within a diverse and international research community.
