ICR 2020: Call for Papers

The 2020 International Conference on Romanticism, will be held October 22-24 in St. Louis, MO.

The conference theme of “Romantic Confluences” is a gesture toward the location at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. ICR 2020 encourages proposals on this theme across a range of perspectives, from geography and spatiality to translation and literary form.

While broad interpretations of this theme are encouraged, some possible approaches include the following:

· Geography and Spatiality
· Travel and River Studies
· Romantic Hospitality
· Refugees and Migrants
· Nationalism
· Translation
· Empire
· Slavery
· Sexuality and Gender Fluidity
· Generic Blendings
· Confluences of the 18th and 19th Centuries
· Representing the Ecology of Waterways

The conference welcomes proposals for individual papers, as well as calls for special sessions, complete panels and alternative presentation formats (such as Pecha Kucha). All proposals are due by March 1, 2020.

For details, see the conference website, which will include more information as the conference approaches.
