Global Nineteenth-Century Studies Indexed in Scopus

Liverpool University Press is pleased to announce that Global Nineteenth-Century Studies (GNCS) has been accepted for inclusion in Scopus, one of the world’s leading abstract and citation databases.

Launched in 2022 in partnership with the Society for Global Nineteenth-Century Studies, GNCS has quickly established itself as an innovative forum for scholarship that rethinks the long nineteenth century (c. 1750–1914) through global, transnational, and interdisciplinary perspectives. Its inclusion in Scopus marks an important milestone in the journal’s continued development and growing international profile.

Above the title are publication details and ISSN numbers. The background features a sepia-toned antique world map in two hemispheres, showing Europe, Africa, the Americas, and parts of Asia with fine cartographic detail.

Emma Burridge, Journals and Online Manager at Liverpool University Press, commented:

Of the publications considered each year for inclusion in Scopus, less than half make it through the independent Content Selection Advisory Board’s review process. Made up of international experts, the CSAB requires any journal under consideration to be rigorous in terms of its editorial policies, peer review process, and geographical distribution of authors and editors, as well as considering the journal’s academic contribution to its subject area and the readability of its articles. Global Nineteenth-Century Studies being accepted into the Scopus database demonstrates the journal’s quality and its standing in the field – no small thing for a journal publishing ‘only’ its fifth volume this year.

Berny Sèbe, Associate Professor in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies | University of Birmingham (UK) and GNCS editorial board member added:

The inclusion of Global Nineteenth-Century Studies (GNCS) in Scopus marks a milestone for scholars approaching the nineteenth century from a pluridisciplinary, integrated, and worldwide perspective. GNCS is vital for revealing the connections, networks, and dynamics that drove a century of unprecedented cultural, industrial, and technological progress.

Scopus’s decision, coming just four years after GNCS’s launch in 2022, acknowledges the editorial team’s leadership in shaping Nineteenth-Century Studies It will also facilitate the inclusion of a wider range of contributions by scholars at all stages of their careers, who will welcome the institutional recognition that Scopus brings.

Expanding Visibility and Global Reach

Scopus indexing builds on GNCS’s existing presence in the MLA International Bibliography and the Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, further strengthening its position as a leading venue for global nineteenth-century scholarship.
